This is the NUFDI IranAlert—concise, timely analysis offering unique insights into breaking news and major developments inside Iran. Each short brief provides a fresh angle, highlighting trends, reactions, and overlooked internal dynamics shaping Iran and the Islamic Republic.

The Islamic Republic executed protester Mojahed Kourkour (also known as Abbas Kourkouri) this morning. The authorities have told his family that they will not receive his body or be allowed to hold a funeral. He was sentenced to death by a Revolutionary Court in Ahvaz for “waging war against God” (Moharebeh), “corruption on earth” (efsad-e fel arz), and “armed rebellion against the state” (baghi) in relation to his role in the 2022 anti-establishment protests in Iran. The authorities have accused Kourkour of involvement in the killing of nine-year-old Kian Pirfalak during protests in Izeh, Khuzestan Province, on 16 November 2022. Kian’s family has repeatedly denied the allegation and blamed security forces for his killing. At Kian’s funeral, the boy’s mother, Zeynab Molaei, told mourners, “Hear it from me myself on how the shooting happened, so they can't say it was by terrorists, because they’re lying. Plainclothes forces shot my child. That is it.” Independent investigations by Amnesty International and global media have also shown that plainclothes security forces used unlawful lethal force during protests in Izeh and fatally fired live ammunition at the child and his family, leading to Kian’s death and severe injury to his father.  From his arrest in December 2022 to early April 2023, Mojahed Kourkour was subjected to forced disappearance, with his family being denied access to him, and was deprived of an independently selected lawyer.  He was also subjected to gruesome torture, mistreatment, and prolonged solitary confinement to elicit a forced confession that was later used against him in a sham trial. Mojahed Kourkour is the 11th person known to have been executed in relation to the protests, which were sparked by the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman who was detained by morality police in Tehran in September 2022 for allegedly wearing her hijab “improperly.” The last known person to be executed in connection with the 2022 protests was Reza Rasaei in August of last year. At least 582 prisoners, including 19 people sentenced over false political, religious, and security charges, have been executed in Iran so far this year. Mojahed Kourkour’s sentencing and execution are another travesty of justice. His blood is on the hands of the Islamic Republic in Iran and its enablers abroad.
