This is the NUFDI IranAlert—concise, timely analysis offering unique insights into breaking news and major developments inside Iran. Each short brief provides a fresh angle, highlighting trends, reactions, and overlooked internal dynamics shaping Iran and the Islamic Republic.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei today tied maintaining the regime’s “full nuclear cycle” to Iran’s “sovereignty” and “independence,” while rejecting any halt to uranium enrichment on Iranian soil. An immediate halt to enrichment, or the phasing out of enrichment, has been a demand of the United States in nuclear negotiations with the Islamic Republic. Khamenei made these remarks in an address to a crowd of supporters and top officials at the Mausoleum of the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, marking the 36th anniversary of Khomeini’s death. On a “full nuclear cycle,” Khamenei framed possession of a “full nuclear cycle” and nuclear capabilities as a point of national pride and a “bedrock” for other industries and sectors. He added, “Today, Iran possesses the full cycle of nuclear power. We can process nuclear fuel from the mine to the power station.” On “sovereignty” and telling Americans “Who the hell are you?”, Khamenei said, “The first thing we tell the Americans and others is, Who the hell are you? Why do you interfere and talk about whether Iran should have an enrichment program or not? It’s none of your business… You have the ability to destroy the world. It’s none of your business whether the Iranian nation enriches uranium or not, or whether it has a nuclear industry or not… This is a sovereign nation with agency… With what legal authority do you issue such demands?” On the issue of enrichment, Khamenei said, “Enemies have concentrated their efforts on our uranium enrichment. A nuclear industry without enrichment capabilities is useless, because we would then be dependent on others to obtain fuel for our power plants.” On the issue of nuclear “reliance” he said, “The Americans’ primary demand is that Iran must not have a nuclear industry, so it would rely on them… Indolent and rude leaders of the U.S. are repeating this demand in different forms.” The state media camera panned to the crowd and IRGC Chief Hossein Salami chanting, “Death to America.” On the dismantlement demand and rejecting threat of military action, he said, “Our response to the loudmouthed and imprudent U.S. administration is clear: A few years back, an American president said that if he could, he would dismantle Iran’s nuclear industry to the last bolt and wheel. He then confessed that he can’t. Since then, all elements of our nuclear industry have been strengthened. He then confessed that he can’t dismantle [the nuclear program]. Those who are in power now, Zionist and American alike, could not do a damn thing in this area.” In the same speech, Khamenei describedindependence” as a “fundamental pillar” of the Islamic Republic and said, “Independence means that the country does not wait for the green or red light of America and its ilk.” This quote was highlighted by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei on X, formerly Twitter.
